Derren Brown LIVE

Derren Brown

I’ve wanted to see Derren Brown live for ages, I think the man is a genius.

His mixture of trickery and his ability to understand and control the human mind makes for a great show - everyone should go see him.

I’ve always admired the fact that he can out “psychic” the psychics… whilst explaining it’s all rubbish. For me, his Messiah program was one of the best TV shows ever made - he debunked a whole raft of cons in one show. Check it out!

On a slightly strange note, we were sat next to 2 old uni course mates of mine, who I haven’t seen for years… they’d seen my facebook status when I bought the tickets and had decided to go, by chance purchasing the 2 seats next to me. ooooh spooky.

Anyway, I’d give it a 9/10 for enjoyment. Sure if you want to learn how he does all his tricks, you could do so, but thats what I love about it… the magic of knowing its a trick, but it still leaves you thinking… “how the hell did he do that?!”

Went to FunkiSushi last night…

funki sushi

I had high expectations based on the reports from Lucy and her friends who go now and again, for some reason I’ve never properly had Sushi.

It’s not that I think “er yuk, raw fish” or anything odd like that, it’s just that I haven’t. I like food so I was up for giving it a try.

The food was fantastic, we had a platter with an assortment or sushi on it and a couple of other dishes - all Sushi.

Tried everything, even the wasabi (strong peppery mustard, hot but yum) - loved it.

Service - TERRIBLE.

Despite the fact there were 2 chefs and 4 staff working the floor… and there were only 7 tables… it still took nearly an HOUR to get our Sushi. When we queried the location of our food after about 30-40mins, we were told “there’s been a lot of orders for Sushi tonight so you’ll have to wait” - WHAT?

It’s a frickin’ Sushi restaurant, it’s not like we walked into McDonalds and ordered Sushi!!

To the Chef’s credit, it was worth the wait, but if you know its going to take time TELL YOUR CUSTOMERS THAT WHEN THEY ORDER!! Perhaps suggest an interim appetiser or another round of drinks.

Honestly, I felt pretty ignored, it was even hard to get the bill and when we did leave despite walking straight past our waiter he made no effort to say goodbye. Poor show.

Oh and I forgot to add they spilt soy on Lucy too. Amateurs.

Food 8.5/10
Service 2/10

I might send this review to them…

liar liar, pants on fire!

I told you she was dodgy… Hilary Clinton = outright liar

“I remember landing under sniper fire, there was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.”

Actually… well, it looked more like this… clinton in bosnia

In other words, a complete and utter lie… now I might be wrong, I’ve never had a diplomatic greeting or been under sniper fire… but I’m pretty sure I’d remember the difference.

“I mis-spoke”

What?

Getting figures wrong, is “mis-speaking”… perhaps getting the year or place wrong I’d allow… but thats just an out and out fib, its a fabrication of the truth, its a big ol’ pile of bulllsh~t… a LIE!!!

I stand by my earlier entry, she’s an evil corporate puppet who’ll lie and cheat as it suits.

ssshhh don’t say the R word!

Seriously… what’s it going to take for a news person to admit we’re headed into (or are in already) some form of recession???

I mean come on!

Look around you, shops are closing, house sales have dried up, prices for food n essentials are rising… I’m no economist but surely these are major signs of a slow down?

Shops are always having sales these days… remember when you used to have maybe 2 or 3 a year? Boxing day sales.. maybe the odd new season sale…

Now it seems to be the boxing day sales, the spring sales, end of catalogues sale, the easter sales, pre-summer sale, mid-summer sale, the autumn sale, the pre-christmas sale… when is the non-sale period now?

Perhaps if someone dares say “recession” then we’ll more likely get a full blown one… oops, I said it.. oh no… now it’s all my fault! :-)

In other news, job hunting is still ticking along… be nice to get a job now, few more things have popped up, should have a 2nd interview for one job this week. Cross fingers.

coming out of the closet

It’s time for me to come out and be honest with you all.

I shop at Lidl…

lidl

…and I like it.

“I can’t believe you shop at Lidl” (+ look of disgust)

At first, yes, I’ll admit… I snuck in there… simply because my stupid knee and ankle wouldn’t carry me any further and the constant Spar trips were uninspired and expensive. (85p for a can of coke!?)

Snuck is the right word, lets be honest… Lidl has a stigma attached to it, but I think that overlooks it’s charm…

So, here’s my top 5 reasons why I’m lovin’ Lidl -

1) It was one of the first retailers to charge for carrier bags… ok, so I’d always assumed this was a cost exercise but it does encourage re-use so thats good.

2) I love that mystery that comes with shopping in a foreign supermarket on holiday… not 100% sure what you’re going to get… the crazy random cakes… odd flavoured cooked meats… YUM!!! Variety and randomness in shopping…

3) The BEST chorizo anywhere… simply because it’s actually from Spain and not some UK meat factory.

4) The price, its damn cheap for everything. I bought a lovely bottle of wine that I’d drunk in Spain, £2.79! Bargain and much tastier than the generic Gallo or Blossom Hills you get round here.

5) SWEETS!!!! Hmmmm… they have the best sweets, cakes, biscuits and chocolates… I like sweets :-) (25p for their choc chip cookies… which taste better than maryland cookies)

No more Asda and Tesco for me… Lidl all the way! Like I care what people think?! Pffft

Luke is a Lidl shopper… and proud!

day 7

written off - gave up - dropped out

Yes, even I feel rubbish sometimes, it all caught up with me yesterday - I felt really out of control with almost everything.

I’m at the mercy of my illness, nothing I do seems to help. Swimming has generally helped me return towards fitness but my feet still hurt like crap just to stand on.

Job hunting, pffft. It’s quite hard to keep applying for stuff, when mostly the same jobs (that require some skills you don’t have) keep coming up and no new ones.

Other stuff was doing my head in, which I won’t put on here.

Scrapped yesterday, today is the new day 7!

In other news…

bike club

Bike Club has reared its head on facebook… and it wasn’t me that started it! Everyone who came last year, apart from one is on there already… plus we seem to of gained some “noobs”! Mondays 645pm Bomo Pier, once weather picks up a bit… and for me… when the doctor gives the ok :-( I wanna get on my bike (stamps feet & sulks)

slinky

I’m playing at Slinky this Friday in room 2 - Yakuji Love - 1-2am! Wooop! (Ferry Corsten 2-330 in main room)

If you’d like paying guestlist (£10 instead of £15 tickets) email me by 1pm THURSDAY!!!

Did I mention, I’ll be playing my new tune there? ;-)
