googling

Occasionally I google my sites, certain key words and things to see where I (or my clients) sit on google ranking… I don’t think I’ve ever googled “alukeonlife” before but I found this reference to my site on bloguniverse:

http://www.alukeonlife.com

A veritable buffet of entries ranging from the appetisingly optimistic ideas of its writer (Luke) for improving ones life through meatier reflections on the wider world occasionally infused with spicy random but often intriguing facts and tangents

hahaha

I get a name check, quote and link in a Bournemouth council report… random eh?

Kinda cool and scary how much of my life can be googled if you use the right phrases

pier to pier swim update - sea swim #1

FSM* on a bike - swimming in the sea was hard work!!

Thanks mainly to the biggest waves I’ve EVER seen in Bournemouth, without a storm, Doh!!

Slightly scared I entered the sea with Mike as a safety (on waveski) swam for about 45mins and although I didn’t cover the traget distance at all, I’m very pleased with the swim. Swimming with the current was ok (as per the actual swim) back against it was 5x harder, I feel like I’ve had a good workout. :)

Learnt a load of useful (ish) things:

1) with a wetsuit its a lot easier to float/tread water - one of my worries for doing the swim was getting cramp or stitch and having to float for a bit vs swimming in to shore and not actually doing it all in 1 go. No longer worried about that.

2) My wetsuit rocks. Kept me warm, didn’t impair my swimming at all.

3) The key pocket thing kept my keys safe! Wooo!

4) I can swim in amongst big waves out of my depth, comfortably for a long time - nice to know if I’m ever in some sort of boat accident! hahaha

5) Mike’s well out of practice on a waveski :D I think I was more of a safety for him! (Call that a roll? Looked more like a “capsize wriggle splash aaaaah glug now-I’m-off-the-board-crap” to me!)

6) I’m going to be thirsty when I finish the swim.

7) Its harder to judge distance in the sea than I expected, I felt like I was getting nowhere for ages because all the landmarks and reference points are a LOT further away compared to a pool.

If you haven’t already, PLEASE sponsor me! >>>>>

FIRE 107.6 studios

UPDATE: oops posted the vids and somehow deleted the bumf I’d written…

FIRE radio is moving to a new home, which is kinda cool as.. well its a bit knackered… but kinda sad in that 1) it’ll no longer be right near my flat and 2) the old studios have been a 2nd home for years.

So I felt I needed to record a vid of the studios when I recorded my last show there last night. Here they are:

plantlife

It seemed simple enough, 3 tubs, some instructions, soil and seeds.

Plant seeds, add water, cover till they sprout then re-pot and grow.

Hmmm….

plant A: the “non-starter”… somehow I managed to kill this one, before it even existed - doh!

plant B: this is the one I’m most optimistic about… although I’m scared to re-pot it after what happened with…

plant C: oops. Having followed the instructions and re-potted the plants in this one… only one still survives… it’s since grown a 3rd leaf so it is alive!

plantlife

it gets worse… look whats happened to my only surviving plant I’ve had more than a few weeks (had it over 10 years!)

Green fingered, I aint.

PS BIKE CLUB 645 @ DURLEY (unless its peeing it down)

pedophils out :-S

Oh dear.

I’m going to sound like a snob now… but for the love of FSM can someone please tell lynch mobs how to spell!!!

On BBC news earlier I saw “Paedophils Out” and “Parents against Pedofiles” on banners… clearly made by intelligent individuals aware of all the facts and not just stirred up by the media… PLEASE, if you’re going to campaign about something, at least learn how its spelt: Paedophile (or american Pedophile)

Do you think any of them realise that just 10% of these incidents are by strangers?

Why don’t the media or presure groups talk more about the other 90%? Simple, its not a good story, its not as emotive… I forget which US president said this (JFK?) “the only thing we have to fear, is fear itself” I’m sick of us turning the world upside down over irrational fears.

Words of wisdom from Boris Johnson MP (who I don’t often agree with) who I think hit the nail on the head the other day:

“To all those who worry about the paedophile plague ….they fail to understand the terrible damage that is done by this system of presuming guilt in the entire male population just because of the tendencies of a tiny minority

… the problem is the general collapse of trust. Almost every human relationship that was sensibly regulated by trust is now governed by law, with cripplingly expensive consequences”

Fear has taken over, logic has lost… how do we ever get back from here when todays children are being protected more than ever, against a smaller risk? It’s a paranoia circle of hype and irrational reaction thats just going to get worse :(
