training

Wooooooooo! The training is back on track, I missed a session due to the 4 day weekend but once I’ve gone for todays bike club session, I’ll be back on track. I’ve stepped up another notch now too… ooohh… I think this ones gonna hurt, sit ups with weights? what sadistic swine invented that one??

Anyway… look out ladies, I’m gonna be ultra-hot by the summer… charm, intelligence, wit, looks, style (well maybe not style) and fit… it’s going to be hard to resist me. ;-)

In all seriousness, it’s great how lots of things are coming together nicely right now, the fitness n diet is giving me more energy, the cashflows in the right direction, the flats looking MUCH better (really must post some pics on here) and…

drum roll please…

I will complete the Master Practitioner in NLP next week!! I’m off up north (well shropshire) for my grans funeral mon-wed and then I’m signed up to do the final part of my NLP on Thu + Fri.

Bring it!

PS I’m dis-owning you all as friends, except for Nick and James who’ve already sponsored me! Adam + Adam, you both owe £20 to the fund don’t forget >>>>>>>

some light relief

its all been a bit serious round here the last week or so… 10 points for the man who spotted this one:

1.go to www.google.com
2.click on maps
3.click on get directions
4.go from “new york” to “paris, france”

directions 22, 23 and 24 made me laugh:

22. Turn right at Long Wharf 0.1 mi
23. Swim across the Atlantic Ocean 3,462 mi
24. Slight right at E05 0.5 m

brilliant… :D

HSBC Canford Cliffs

I am disgusted to read the story about HSBC stopping face to face service for anyone other than their premier customers at the HSBC Canford Cliffs branch, if they wish to choose which of their customers they look after in this way then they should start a new bank altogether.

Yes, I understand they’re a business and bla bla bla… but they’re also a service. I was going in today to set up a savings account, but I’m considering moving my money elsewhere now.

A day in London

Apologies for not posting for a while, I’ve had a rather busy weekend. (5 sets in 4 days = 19hrs of Djing)

Last wednesday I went to London on a bit of a day trip, I started the day with a visit to Tate Modern with the hope I could get a go on one of the giant slides that had been installed in the turbine hall by Carsten Höller

carsten holler 3

The slides are free but you have to get a timed ticket by queueing at 930 or 2, I rocked up at 2 to find a fairly large queue, when I got to the front I was expecting a timed slot later in the afternoon like 4 or something… only to be told everyone wanted pairs and as I was on my own they had 1 ticket left for the 2-230 slot… wooooOOO!

carsten holler 2

…barely able to contain the huge grin that spread across my face… I trundled of, all the way up the 6 floors and then weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee… whoosh I was back at the bottom.

carsten holler 1

Wow. Imagine the biggest bestest slide you’ve ever been on in your life, then multiply it by 10! If this is the future of urban travel (which is what Carsten is suggesting with this installation) then yeah baby, roll on the future!

Then off I went to do a few things around London, went for a bit of a walk and then met Chris for a tour and “meeting” at Ministry of Sound HQ.

I persuaded Chris to come n join me at Victoria for the start of the Flashmob… he looked a bit confused at first, then seemed to find it amazing when it all kicked off (see the vid below). Once the flashmob was over, I had some food and headed for my coach back. All in all a good day to re-charge my brain, see and interact with art and do another thing on my life to-do list.

Return bus ticket to London, £12

Giant slide ride @ tate modern, £5 donation

Dancing with 4000 people in a railway station for no real reason, priceless.

Winner!

bit heavy for a monday but had to be written, sorry

It’s been an odd weekend. On Friday I realised that the sudden un-expected death of a 25 year old girl from an electrical seizure (rare form of epilepsy) that I’d read about in the local paper, was someone I knew. Whilst I didn’t know her that well, she was someone I’d worked with in clubland quite a few times through the years who’d always bounce up and say hello.. I’d also worked with her boyfriend on a project for a few months last summer.. then just, snap, she’s gone.

Late on Saturday afternoon I also had a call to say that gran on my dad’s side of the family had passed away. (aka “mad gran” for those in the know - I think I inherited a lot of her genes actually) She’d been ill for some time and the last few times I went up to see her, I came away with the sad but realistic knowledge it could be the last time I saw her. She lived a full and hectic life almost to the end, it’s such a cliche to say that she was a shadow of herself in hospital and I really feel like she’d just lived her whole life and then died.

I didn’t want to dwell on these things over the weekend so I haven’t really said anything to anyone till now, it is sad when you lose someone you love and respect but for me the worst thing is a million people asking if you’re ok - I deal with things on my own and then just get on with it.

I have gran to thank for a lot of who I am as a person; my entrepenurial spirit can be traced to many a childhood day spent playing shop with old boxes she kept in a suitcase and admiration for the years she ran her shop. A spirit of adventure and living life to its full can be best summed up by her hot air ballooning for her 70th birthday and countless other crazy adventures she’d had!

So now, it’s 3am monday morning and as usual the body clocks a bit messed up after working till silly o’clock friday and a night out on saturday, I can’t sleep with thoughts rattling round my head, so I have to empty them here and look ahead to an exciting phase: the refurnishing (more to come on that soon!) and de-cluttering has almost been completed, meaning I now have an adult flat… I’m, hopefully (funeral arrangements permitting), off to take part in my first flashmob on Wednesday (another tick on my life to-do list). Got 3 good gigs this weekend lined up (DV8 party Thu and Fri + Sun in the newly extended basement @ toko) and I’m reflecting but not dwelling on life being finite.

Times like this can make you feel a bit alone in the world, I think it’s hard as a bloke to admit that… mind you, since when have I been a typical bloke? Maybe I’ll go speed dating again, sign up for online dating or just ask a few girls out, carpe diem n that.

Hurray for my friends, I know you’re out there and yes, I will shout if I need you.

Live life.

Luke
