Motion and emotion

motionemotion

It’s easy to forget the simple things in life sometimes; one of those is the relationship between motion and emotion. In the words of Mr Anthony Robbins “Motion creates emotion”, it’s easy to prove… sit slumped in a chair for 10mins, how do you feel? Stand up, jump around, quack like a duck, now how do you feel? Completely different I’ll bet. So what changed?

I was thinking last night about the factors that will influence the decisions I have to make in the weeks ahead, one of those is my environment. Working in a “normal 9 to 5” (whatever that is) has one major drawback… its too passive for me! I have to get up n walk to the water machine at least every hour, otherwise I’d pretty much be sat on my arse all day.

This got me thinking, no wonder everyone is bored at work (I don’t mean where I am working now, I mean society in general!)… we all sit on our asses every day. My though for today is, get up, stretch it out, jump around… quack like a duck (not sure what that has to do with it, but it works)… take a quick stroll… go out for a non-fag (that’s cigarette to those of you from the US of A) break… WORK IT BABY!

Try it for a day, see how you get on.

luck n karma

I don’t believe in luck. We’ve done that one on here plenty of times, you make your own luck… end of. (chance is another thing altogether, it’s not mystical – see the booklist: “the luck factor”)

Karma… I was thinking earlier “do I believe in karma?”

On reflection, I think it’s more that I believe if you generally do good things, good things happen to you rather than some mystical karmic energy flow thing… then something spooky happened… I was searching for an old post on here and I found an entry on Karma… written almost exactly a year ago, where I said I must be due some good things as my Karmic account is in credit.

Looking back though, I could of done better last year. I made some bad decisions and didn’t have a great year.

The siginificance of this?

A year later, I’m pondering some more big decisions from a very different position and in a different state of mind.

I need a holiday

…so thank the FSM above I’m going on one next week!!!

I worked so many hours this week that my body is physically run down, I know this because when I push myself this hard I get mouth ulcers which really hurt. :-(

Another fairly busy week ahead and then off to the sun!!! Woooooo!

Got a lot of decision making and planning to do while I go away.. I’m writing some thoughts here so I can read it back later (maybe while away) from another perspective (which is one of the reasons I write this thing!)

Finish the course – making time to fit in all the study and practical days
Buying another house/flat – Big house with Chris or flat
Full time job vs the “plink” plan
the book
the EP
re-write the big plan

Blogging pointers for newbie bloggers

The more observant amongst you may notice that I have taken down one of the sites I look after. This is at the request of its owner, for reasons I will not be posting on here. Please email me if you need to get in touch with the site owner, do not post comments on here either about the site, or related to its owner in any way.

This leads me onwards to an issue I’ve written about in the past… the good n bad of blogging!

Visibility – Blogging is a great way to unload your head, kinda like writing a diary… that your friends can read – the danger of this is that unless you make everything private you must remember that anyone can read what you write… and no matter how unlikely or removed you are from the writing, it is quite possible your relatives, friends, colleagues or enemies could find your ramblings!

Comments – In my opinion, if you censor comments, you’re missing the point. Allow people the freedom to agree/disagree with what you write, an engaged audience makes the blog more readable and human. Another site I look after posted an entry about a decision they had to make, I left them an honest comment explaining why I felt it was a bad idea… partly because I felt I knew the person better than any of the other people who had commented and agreed with their idea… my comment was deleted, I’ve since learnt that others posted the same advice but it was removed – what is the point in that? The only person they were truly tricking was themselves. The only time I’ve edited/removed comments is when the commenter was easily identifiable and making remarks about a situation I was involved in, where their comments could have created problems for themselves.

Identity – I write this blog and by doing so, I’m saying that it’s ok to write about me on here. I would always advise that anyone avoid writing about a real life person/situation without changing key facts to protect their identity – those people (like ‘em or hate ‘em) who you want to write about, have a right to privacy that should be respected.

Security – Create as much of a separation as possible between the online world and your offline life. Never post your address, phone number or other traceable details online, unless you’re happy for the world to know it. I read a blog last week that talked about their mother’s maiden name and their town of birth… the personal profile contained their date of birth and home address… I could of stolen their identity without any effort at all!! If someone can read your blog online, they can send you an email, so don’t post any other contact methods online. (maybe IM or skype… but you get the point)

Legality – Hmmm, this is a tricky one… without rambling for ages about the legal does n don’ts of journalism (which I’ve learnt thanks to working in radio and having to sign a contract every 6 months that lays it all out for me!) some points to consider…

- Journalism basics – respect people’s privacy, don’t post privileged knowledge (I.E. stock information, without declaring you are a stock holder) or prejudicial information (I.E. something that could influence a case being heard in court) online, unless you have a good lawyer.
- Copyright – fair use for review is acceptable, ripping off pages n pages or hours n hours of content is not!
- Employment – if you blog about your job, remember that fellow workers can, and will, find your blog.
- Ownership – you’d have to be damn clever to blog completely anonymously. If you own a domain name, you are traceable, every time you use the internet from home your usage is recorded by your ISP… tiny references here n there to the real world, add up to make you identifiable.

Stay safe peeps and if you have any good links/comments or further advice to add, please do so.

another brick in the wall

2 things…

uno – OH MY FSM* I had fun in London!
Ministry of Sound kicked ASS!!! First up I did some study on the train, so my guilt of going to London was gone… a nice meal in Streatham, quick beer in a cool bar and off to Ministry for some serious drinkin n dancin’..

Chris Lake was good, Micky Slimm rocked it, Sebastien Leger was ok, Buick Project (live) were awesome. Met some very cool (and fit) people, drank a bit too much then partied some more at Formulate… not as good as ministry, DJ must of been wrecked or something, his mixing was off, bit disappointed but random missioning amused me, if not Chris

- my quote of the night had to be the immortal words of wisdom I gave Chris at 5am when we were lost in aldgate… “Ask someone random where it is, random people always know everything…” Luke stumbles off to a random car… “excusssh me mate, where is Formulate?”.. “I dunno mate but there’s a club down there..” – TA DA! Club located, thanks to the next random who came by… point proven!

dos – NLP course chosen and paid up
Another brick in the learning wall this one… I’ve chosen a course that I think will suit me best, lots of DVD and book pre-study, from an institute that has a more scientific approach and involves doing practicals in chunks… I’ve also added in hypnotherapy, which means technically it’s kinda 3 courses in 1 (Practitioner of NLP, Master Practitioner of NLP and an Advanced Practitioner in Clinical & Medical Style Hypnotherapy)

Yeeeehaaaa!!!! Not doing things by ‘alves this year guv’nor!

reflective and thankful

It’s gone midnight, I’m pretty tired and I still have some work to do… I started today at 7am following my London adventure this weekend (more on that in a bit)… and I know I have to start it all over again tomorrow at 7… but you know what, I’m really happy.

I’ve just flicked through a load of photo’s from the last few years and I found myself thinking, how lucky I am. Then I realised… I’m not lucky… I don’t believe in luck… which made me think, I’m thankful for what I’ve done, the places I’ve been and the people I’ve met… but not lucky and I must not slack off now!

The next 4 weeks is crunch time.

In the next 2 weeks I have

6 DJ gigs totalling 32hrs
10 days of “normal work” to do = 70hrs
a project to finish by Friday = 5hrs-ish

= 107hrs of work by 4th Feb – a mere 53.5 per week… doddle!

Although, I do need to fit in some study, buy some furniture, sort the flat out, re-edit a load of tunes for 2manygenres (this Friday @ Dusk), meet up with 2 clients, refresh my spanish and sleep… hopefully…

Good thing I’m off on holiday after that… scarily, thats a fairly average week at the moment and you know what, I wouldn’t change a thing.

…well a couple of things… but the planning of the next stage can wait till the holiday!

Which reminds me… the very talented artist Ms Kelly Barnes has decided to accompany me on holiday for a weeks RnR… winner! (And having accepted my conditions that we do absolutely nothing all week!)

UPCOMING GIGS
Friday – Union @ Dusk till Dawn :: Saturday – funk dungeon @ Toko
