things I have learned in the last week or so

1) size 11 trainers have a genetic condition which prevents them from being in the january sales

2) watching an 80+ year old grandmother “tap” a chocolate orange with a big hammer is amusing

3) the Castlepoint shopping centre was actually a typo, it was supposed to be called Cattlepoint in honour of the braindead cattle who frequent the place

4) I am a snob (see 3)

WARNING the next one may upset some people

5) the littlest hobo never found his way home, he died at the end of the third series

6) someone I’ve known for ages lied to me (I won’t name n shame here)… the littlest hobo ran for 6 series and, whilst he never found his way home, he was not killed off (phew)

7) I have “matured well” (am I a feckin wine?) - 2 entirely random encounters with people I haven’t seen for ages resulted in me being told that i am now “much fitter than before, but somehow no older looking” and “you look great, you’ve got better looking with age”… made me laugh anyway… so it’s official, I’m now hot stuff! hahaha

8) in large book stores, “Adult books” does NOT mean the same thing as “Adults books” in WHSmith

9) Christmas cheese is Wensleydale and Cranberry

10) Steve Irwin discovered a new species of turtle, now known as “Irwin’s turtle” - cool eh?

thats all for 2006 (probably) I’m playing Toko for NYE, come down say hello, free entry… open till 6am - woooooooooo!

I am a spring

Right now, I feel like a spring… the coiled metal kind.

See, I’ve worked fecking hard the last few months… and whilst I know it’s headed in the right direction, it’s not quite got there yet.

Financially, it’s been a really tough year. Lots of big bills going out, not so much coming in! That corner is almost turned now, soon… my bank account will be in the black, the credit cards will be clear and I can work a few less hours… thereby having more time to put into Positive Link.

Healthwise, I don’t feel much fitter yet, but I’m still working out quite a bit and I’m starting the training plan for the Pier to Pier swim in Jan… look out ladies, fit, smart and charming… lethal combo! hahaha!

Flat fings, I’m still in this place, but… now I have access to clever money people (ever need a financial advisor - mortgage, investments, insurance etc, let me know) it’s still on track, but whilst I have the debt where it is… it’s off the agenda for a bit longer.

Holidays n oz - until the bank account is in the black I’m not adding to my Oz fund, which stands around £750 at the moment… Nov I think is the plan at the moment

Job stuff - I’m still on a short term contract, in Jan, I’ll be looking to make this a full time role, either where i am now or by applying elsewhere - chrimbo out the way then the CV will fly out.

Gigs - 4 good monthly gigs lined up for next year, only 1 I have confirmed dates for so far…. the others will happen… they just haven’t yet… damn it!

Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!! The spring is coiled… tightening n almost ready to explode… look out ‘007! here I come!

PS how cool is it, that the year is ‘007? Wooop wooop!

the re-balance begins

not so much a new years resolution as a tweak of the game plan today… I’d been asked to play christmas eve which is traditionally the night all my old friends assemble in Hereford.

I think I’m going to Hereford, it’s quite a tough call, I could do with the money but one thing I must improve next year is spending more time up north.

Apologies to all those who were coming down on 24th, I leave you in the very capable hands of his pastie-ship Adam L.

Further to this… I’m actually taking some time off!!!! Been working too hard the last few weeks trying to finish a project before christmas, whilst working… and DJing till silly o’clock on the weekend = time for a week of RnR.

Gigs:
* Thursday 21st Dec - pure FIRE - 2000-2200
* Friday 22nd Dec - Toko - 2300-0500

* Friday 29th Dec - Toko - 2300-0500
* Sunday 31st Dec (NYE!) - Toko - 2200-0600
* Thursday 4th Jan - pure FIRE - 2000-2200
* then onwards as normal…

ahhh the memories

A re-discovered timecapsule of houseparty craziness from 2000 for y’all…

The scene, a big old house party for Mr Simon M’s leaving do… 4am.. most people having drunk far too much….

The night that invented the infamous catch phrase “can someone just check he’s still alive?”

i like opera

nope not the singing kind.. and I’m sure Mark/Rich/Matt someone will pipe up n say something like, oh that’s so last year… but the mobile internet browser.

Installed opera mini onto my Nokia N70 and it is a beauty! I can’t believe how much better it runs, some incredibly good features (like using RSS feeds straight into the browser and the use of the joystick to jump a page at a time to save you scrolling down for hours - one of my pet hates with mobile internet)

bugger it. my phone bills going upwards.. still this will keep me amused while I patiently await my new toy - the Nokia N95 on Three (hats off to them for FINALLY doing a proper data tariff on a mobile internet handset - the 3 X series - think broadband, pay once no per MB bill, has skype, messenger and loads of other cool software pre-installed)

it’s not often I get excited about software (gadgets, yes… ok) but seriously, install this on your phone! It works with most decent phones (ones that have cameras and mobile internet), browse to mini.opera.com and then follow the steps to download and install.

hint: ignore US english, there is a proper UK english

Took me 2mins to install and setup, on both a Nokia N70 and a Rim Blackberry… why was I doing this? I needed to find a way to get hotmail onto a Blackberry at work… seemed a good excuse to use work time “testing” on my mobile first! Woop!

If anyone’s around, I’m playing Toko friday and Revolution in Reading on sat. Ciao.
