Jaw Ache

A routine filling at the dentist, went a little bit Pete Tong yesterday.

It was all going ok, until they couldn’t get the sucky thing to work well, so they had to put a second one in.

When she resumed the drilling (or whatever the hell that whirry thing does) she opened my mouth a bit wider, there was an odd pop and my ears kind of felt funny… seemed ok, the local anaesthetic was doing its job.

Then when she asked me to bite on the new filling… I couldn’t.

This kinda weirded me out a bit… I couldn’t shut my mouth! I mumbled “I can’t” and kept quite calm…

…until the dentist looked down and went “oh”

then I freaked out a bit! Why couldn’t I shut my mouth???

Dentist and the technician look a bit confused at each other, then one of them fetches the other dentist from next door… who promptly tells me to relax and places both thumbs inside my mouth and then pops my jaw back into place. ow.

It still aches today but I don’t think there’s any lasting damage… couldn’t talk for about 4 hours yesterday, but some would probably say that’s a blessing…

Anyway, old Luke would of said “stuff this for a game of cricket” but not now… I calmly booked my next 6 month check out and wandered home.

Raaaaaaaaaaa!

tell me a story

Sometimes people will believe the most random and stupid things, it’s a bit mean but every now and again I just can’t resist telling a whopper for my own amusement…

…Picture the scene, I’ve just watched a film with my current flatmate Becky, during the film an animal is “shot” and yelps.

At the end of the film is the normal “No animals were harmed, bla bla bla” which Becky points out…

To which I say (absolutely seriously)

“yeah, they always say that, but its a bit cruel the way they tread on the dogs paws to make it yelp”…

jeeeebus, I never thought she’d believe me!!

I really wish I had a video camera for the look of shock… and the hysterics when the penny dropped.

recommended reading

The more observant of you will notice the shiny new addition to the right hand side - recommended reading!!! ooooohhhhh….

There’s about 15 at the moment and I’ve added a comment for each one to explain what I think is great about it or what I got out of it.

but… Why?

…well, for a few reasons really:

1) People are always asking me to recommend books

2) I was compiling a list of my suggested books for the Positive Link project anyway

3) Must be about time I had some sort of income from this damned site! As adverts go its pretty un-obtrusive I reckon! (in case you hadn’t realised it’s an amazon affiliate link)

and last but by no means modestly least

4) To dispell the myth that I am an uber genius… sadly, I’m not, I just read a lot, you could too!

enjoy

UPDATE: I just worked out how to list them all onto 1 page, so if you want to see them all there’s now a link on the left… cunningly called.. recommended reading!

the inter-connectedness of all things

this evening’s entry may be a tad random, nowt new there then..

Flatmate found - dum dum duuuuuuh!
Dubyah Towers welcome’s it’s soon to be newest lodger Carla.

tangent 1: I highly recommend checking out gumtree for free classifieds, I placed an ad on wed night by friday I had 10 replies, of which I invited 5 to see the flat… 4 did… and of those 2 seemed good… it later transpired one of them was a mates sister… so, job done.

inter-connect 1: random internet ad ends up finding a mates sister…

inter-connect 2: …who, once she worked out who I was checked out my photo’s and profile online to find a photo of me and one of her mates.

tangent 2: My sister’s blog will be online soon, I’m just finishing up the design and once I have it’ll appear on the links to the left… Ruth, you need to award point (if any) for your final choice of name: theruthoftheworld.com

inter-connect 3: Aha!! I can check out her new bloke online because he linked to her URL and I saw the trackback… a mwha ha ha haaaa! (he seems sound)

tangent 3: It did make me feel almost like I was spying though? Is it invading his private space to read his blog? Does he read here?? Well, i always go on the theory anything on here is public…

right, that’s enough rantings for today… onwards with some work.

Microsleeping

Raaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!

Ok, I’ll let you into one of my secrets, I work such long days because I learnt how to micro-sleep as a student. In my final year I frequently racked up 50+ hour days but I wouldn’t recomend that for beginners!
Today, I’ll do at least a 24 hour day with loads of energy all the way through on just a 1hr power nap in the middle.

Here’s part of how, but be warned it takes practice:

1 - Turn off any and all distractions, switch off mobiles, unplug the landline etc

(1.5 - for the first few times you do it, set an alarm for an hour later, after a while you just wake up an hour later, it’s quite freaky)
2 - Make the room really dark, lie flat on your back (floor or bed)

3 - Take some deep cleansing breaths, focus on slowing your heart rate down.
4 - Think about feeling refreshed, push everything out of your head, repeat to yourself that in an hour you’ll feel awake and refreshed. If stressful thoughts enter your head, say to yourself I’ll deal with them after this hour (if they persist write a note of what action you’ll take with each one and promise yourself to resolve it after the nap)

5 - When the alarm goes up, strecth out in every direction as much as possible, then jump out of bed. Don’t just get up, LEAP up.

6 - Get your motabalism fired up, be really active, listen to some avin’ it music whatever.

Ciao for now, I’m off to do my second 8 hour day today! Raaaaaaaa!

Half full of what exactly?

Some pointless banter from yesterday actually made me think more than anything else. Mr G said that they viewed me suspiciously simply because I was smiling… dum dum duuuuh! Not only that, G then accused me of being a dreamer… I agreed, much to their disappointment.

He then tried to insult me by saying that I didn’t do half of the 101 things I dreamed of…

God it wound it him up when I said I’d much rather do 50 of the things I dreamed of, than never dream at all.

He actually then said, yeah but you failed in the other 51…

I guess that, really is a half full/half empty scenario. Dreams I haven’t made come true are just works in progress to me.

Right, I’m a bit sleep deprived, so I’ll leave you with some sayings I’ve found today whilst working on a spam filtering issue:

“To sleep perchance to dream. In dreams we search for the truth to find something about ourselves and something about those we love.”

“Life is uncharted territory. It reveals its story one moment at a time. There can be no friendship without confidence, and no confidence without integrity.”

You know what, I actually quite like some of the spam random paragraphs, I’ll find a few tomorrow n stick them up. night.
