Conscientiousness

No, I’m not just showing off with long fancy words… I just couldn’t think of another title!

The internet… fascinating thing, full of endless possibilities to improve the world we live in, to share ideas and bla bla bla… yeah you know.

I was reading some comments on a web site yesterday and something struck me, there is 1 key skill/trait that is essential for survival on the internet… conscientiousness!

Being aware that anyone can write pretty much anything, means to find the really good bit of information… to work out whats really going on… to make sense of the madness… requires you to think about who, why, when, where, what and how everything becomes that which you see on screen.

Let me give an example, 2 people fall out:

Mr X goes online and accuses Mr Y of something, some people read it and think “well, this guy seems real, must be true”, some read it and think “nah this guys full of rubbish”… I (and I hope I’m not alone) read it and thought “why is this person saying this, is it true? whats the other side of the story?”

Turned out X & Y had fallen out, looks to me like what X was saying was utterly lacking in truth… but still fascinating to see how many people read it as geniune at first… if Mr Y hadn’t seen the comment, people might of been left thinking it was true.

Now, I know rumours n accusations are nothing new… but consider this… 3 days after it was posted 416 people were watching (ie notified when updated) and the page had over 5000 reads… in 3 days!

I dunno what I’m wittering about now, but the whole thing really made me think about how you are perceived online and the responsibility you have to be conscientious in your reactions, thoughts and actions.

Innocent until proven guilty… false until proven true… impartial until considered in detail… suspicious until proven safe… thats my moto for today!

Bleurgh…

Bleurgh…

A wicked weekend all round, I’d forgotten how much fun Cardiff could be… got quite a lot of studio time fitted in and then a blinding night at Censo… followed by recovery (more beer) sat outside in the Square and then for a couple at a ragged looking casa (man, that place needs a refit!).

But… thats it, I’m def. going into detox for a while… creme egg cold turkey and no beer!

Luke Dubyah @ Censo

Cheers to all who came down, a good crowd always makes for a good night!

The next one for me at Censo is May 12th with Vicky Devine! Yikes…

Onwards n upwards… some tough times ahead, lots to do… more later…

UPDATE: They loved it so much, we’re doing next bank holiday too… April 30th – wooo!

Eggs n Moles!

Tis the season… to eat creme eggs! Yum, I loves ‘em… in fact I think I’m properly addicted, I’m eating at least 1 a day! I’ll stop on monday… probably…

anyway… talking earlier, I realised that my life at the moment feels like a game of whack-a-mole, you know the one, little moles pop up from holes and you hit them with a mallet… great fun but the more you hit, the more that come up… and they get faster… and more frequent… and more than one at once… thats my life!

I’m doing things, but the faster I do them, the more they pop up… quicker n quicker.. one down… two up… aaaahhhhhhrrrgggggghhhh!

Well, time for a break, I’m off to Cardiff tomo… if you’re in Bournemouth on Sunday – come n see me spin at Censo, I’m playing Electro n house classics from 12, Stu aka the weatherman is on after me. Woooo! Email me for guesty.

oooh almost forgot! The latest installment of 2manygenres is up on polysonic music, an absolute beauty this week, perfect for the Easter Bank (drink) Holiday… of course if you subscribed, you’d already have it… winner!

Hope y’all have a good one… see you next week… when the hangover goes…

Ready… Steady… Cook!

Ready… Steady… Cook!

Yesterday I invited a friend over to lunch… (being known for my slightly un-orthodox cooking methods) in a moment of inspired genius, she decided that rather than me cook something, she would challenge me to a bout of ready, steady… cook!

So, shortly she’ll be arriving with £5 worth of ingredients, which are unknown to me and expecting me to russle up some form of culinary delight within 20mins… wow, my life is non-stop keeeeraaaazzzzeee fun kids!

I’m sure you’re all dying to know what happens, so I’ll post a pic and recipe here for you later…

“it’s Luke’s Cooking Corner and here’s your host… Luuuuuuke Dubyaaaaaaah! Ready, Steady… dubyah cook!”

I’ll get my coat…

Ingredients:
Carrot
Leek
Wholegrain Rice
Chicken
Small tin of tomatoes
Red Onion
Button Mushrooms (to follow mr spoon…)

Gently fried the leeks and onion in butter and olive oil, with pepper and basil.
Cut the chicken up and browned it off with paprika and pepper.
Start the rice.
Pile everything into the same pan, add mushrooms and tomatoes a tiny bit of flour to thicken the juices… then the rice…

voila a Chicken n leek goulash/risotto:

Ready Steady Cook!

tiny bit disappointed.. I wanted a challenge! Some weird piece of fish, or an obscure veggie… ah well, maybe next time…

Today I feel sad…

Today I feel sad…

…I was thinking about the littlest hobo… that poor dog, never did get home…

The Littlest Hobo
(click for theme tune!)

In my quest to check if he did make it home (he didn’t) I did find out a useless fact though…

“A then-unknown Mike Myers appeared in an episode of The Littlest Hobo. He played a paraplegic Frisbee thrower’s friend.”

Which made me chuckle oncemore…
