Derren Brown

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… this man is a genius! A truly amazing man who has an incredible set of skills.

Tonight on Ch4 I watched “messiah” where he used his skills on experts in 5 fields (Psychics/Spirit Guides/Evangalist/UFO “abductees”/spritualist) in different ways to convince them he had their abilities, or other abilities they would believe in and be prepared to endorse.

The whole point of the program was to make you question what you believe, to look at it and say “hey, is this real?”.

Wow, I’m just stunned at how well he was able (and in most cases to surpass the abilities of the experts) to perform these feets… the psychics at mind reading - converted non-believers with a touch - caught someones dreams in a fake dream catcher - told someone their medical history and most disturbingly, spoke to the dead… now, I know he didn’t actually do these things but the reactions of both the subjects and the experts astounded me.

They truly believed in him, not one even vaguely questioned or doubted his abilities. Thought provoking entertainment at its best - loved it!

Luke’s thought for the day: If there is a greater number of children who believe in Father Christmas (Santa… et al) than the number of adults who believe in Jesus… which is more real?

Luke’s useless factoids… #36

Jelly Babies were originally called “peace babies” and first made in 1918 to celebrate the end of WWI

I did not know that until today and now my life is complete… well… almost.

going cold turkey

Ok, this place has always been a space where I can be honest and open about anything with you guys so, bear with me… I’ve got to get this out.

I was an addict, I’m going to nail it on the head now. I got into something through a flatmate leading me astray and now, I’ve seen the light… I’ve got my mojo back and I don’t want it in my life anymore.

Yes, I’ll come clean.. I got hooked on neighbours.

The plane crash, the old faces… Harold Bishop going psycho… but I see it now for the dirty soap opera it really is.

It’s hard for me to admit being into something so un-cultured but it sucked me in, my friends were all doing it, so I thought it was ok… but I know now, I don’t need my daily fix.

As is always the way, it started innocently enough, a sociable episode over lunch with the flatmate, but then i found myself watching with no-one else home. That’s when I knew I had a problem.

I’m done with it now. No more.

Thank you for reading.

another weekend…

I thouroughly enjoyed playing (and drinking… and being on beds with gorgeous women…) at Censo on friday, next gig there is April 16th (Bank Holiday Sunday) so stick it in your diaries and email me for guestlist!

Luke Dubyah and Hareem at censo

So now, its sunday night… I’ve had a good weekend, I’ve not been as productive as I’d hoped (by a long way). Time to really knucle down and get on with some work, got a lot on this week… council meeting tomo, new coaching client to prepare for, a tune to produce and get remixed, a site to finish, a site to build… so, I’ve decided, I’m not going out now till April 8th.

With this in mind, I’ve reviewed and updated my “plan” - scribbled loads of tasks n to-do type things on it… damn it, I WILL cross everything off by then.

See y’all in a couple of weeks!

PS don’t worry, I’ll still post random stuff up on here now n again.

Weddings!

Aaaarrrgggghhhh its that time of year again when my social calender starts filling up for the year with international jetset gigs (erm… well… none yet but we can dream! Plenty of UK dates though) fashion shows, charity dinners and weddings… you know how it is being fabulous… sweety, darlings…

Yikes… weddings!

So far, I’m signed up to be an Usher in december (yes, dec… i know! how well organised are they?) I’m going to 2 in June, 1 in July and 1 in August… cripes, it’s only March!

So it was a welcome moment (being that I’m well known for being tight.. erm?) when the latest invite arrived with a card:

The Wedding Present
Please do not feel that you have to get us a wedding present. Your presence alone is enough at our wedding. However, if you would like to contribute then a donation to our Honeymoon Fund would be most appreciated!

How cool is that!? I take my hat off to you both, genius.

All I have to work out now is… what do I wear??
