PANCAKES!!!!

WINNER!!!

It’s “Shrove Tuesday”

or if you’re traditional but not religious… maybe its “pancake day”

and to those of you, beaten into submission by adverts, it’s “jif lemon day” (jeeebus)

I’m not religious, so why do I celebrate pancake day every year??

Um… because I like pancakes!? Maybe because there is a tradition, every year I have to ring my mum for her recipe.. I always forget how to make them and if I write it down… it gets lost within the year!

I think pancake day is a part of our heritage, like fish n chips, easter… christmas… new year… st george (I don’t believe he killed a dragon, but I think it should be a national holiday), wet seaside holidays…

It’s got me thinking about the whole religion/tradition thing.

Loads of our religious dates are actually old pagan dates, re-branded… so is it so bad or any less valid for Shrove Tuesday to be re-branded Pancake day?

I’m not religious, I don’t believe in some big boogly person (spaghetti monster/allah/god… ganesh… shiva…) or persons controlling things we don’t understand.

I think religion filled the void that science plugged… for me, I think life is about living a moral/ethical existence, if religion helps you do that, then good on it.

Right now, it feels like religion is just ripping the world apart. If you assume for a minute that there was a supreme being, I’m pretty sure he/she/it would be against the violence and hatred in the world.

Get with the times people… evolve!

Primitive gods/religions > modern religions/cults > science n moral living.

Well, enough waffle… I’m off to buy some eggs n stuff for tonight, if you want to join me, pancakes are served at 8. (no really, open invite - send me a txt)

Brandon Block

Brandon Block… every time I’ve seen him play before.. he’s been really hammered and played badly… last night, he was fecking genius. Caught about 1 1/2 of his set at Dusk till Dawn, fantastic!!

Despite being completely exhausted I found it hard not to dance (although the strongbow in my system might of helped!) and he played this 1 tune I have to find… amazing dark sort of breaky tune… kinda electro but savage to the core!

Oops… so much for the detox.

Well, it was a friends birthday… plus 2 good friends were playing in the backroom at Maison.

I made a deal with myself, if I could finish a certain thing, I could go out. Finished it, had a couple of cans of strongbow (trying to save the pennies!) and headed out to maison.

Wicked night, left about 330 for dusk till dawn… left there about 530 to go to a party… stumbled home about 7… yeah… “quiet night in” eh? Ahem.

Hats off to Lionel Vinyl + Lee7Seven (aka geek chic sound system) and Brandon for making the night awesome… although Tula + Touche were wicked it was all about room2 for me.

Traffic meltdown…

I can’t help but feel Bournemouth is about to collapse under the shear volume of traffic.

Look around, next time you’re in downtown Bournemouth.. or ashley road… castle lane… charminster… winton… wallisdown… it’s grinding towards gridlock!

Got me thinking, why is this?

“public transport is poor” - actually, its not. You can easily get a train or coach further afield and locally we’ve got a good selection of buses that run past midnight and start around 6am… whenever I’ve challenged anyone who says this, when they last used a bus… the answer is always… “um.. well, I think I used one 3 years ago when my car broke and…”

“public transport costs too much and is full of cackers/pikeys/wierdos” - again rubbish. Add in the depreciation of your car, petrol, mot, tax and maintenance like tyres… I’ve saved a packet getting rid of my car and using a hire car on the rare occasions nothing else will get me from a to b.

The main reason I think is convenience, or lets be honest… laziness.

It’s easy to convince yourself you have to use a car to get everywhere, but isn’t part of that your choice to use things further afield? To live a greater distance from work… to choose to use a gym thats miles away to get fit, when running that many miles would acheive the same aim… to shop at a huge store, where you have to drive, when you could use online shopping or a local vendor.

Good old human nature, I bet everyone agrees that someone else needs to fix it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not some eco-warrior who expects the world to use public transport and nothing else, but honestly we need to do something soon - Polution affect our health and the environment, dependence on oil makes the world a dangerous place… and by the way, it will run out in our lifetime.

Interesting to see that the streets around my flat are mysteriously growing parking meters (I swear they actually grow out of the ground)… good old council logic, fix the symptoms not the problem, tax it, shut it or make it wider… god forbid they might actually do something constructive like build a monorail!
