trains

I saw this and felt it summed up the journey to and from cardiff very well…

stress twig!

Best laid plans n all that… went a bit wrong, made extra special by having sampled 24hr drinking and only getting 4hrs sleep… anyway.

The plan was…

Train to S’ton… change at S’ton for a train to Newport (where my cousin lives)
Est. Journey Time: 3hr 20mins - arriving 515pm ready to change and go for a 730pm meal.

What happened was…

Train to S’ton was 20mins late, meaning I missed the hourly train by 3mins.. I think we passed it pulling in actually…

So I waited at S’ton for 50mins.

Train was on time… until Bristol, when it decided to break, just outside Temple Meads… DOH! My new arrival of 620pm not looking so likely…

Sat in a stationary train, just outside bristol for what felt like hours… meaning I was now going to land about 7 at Newport… unfortunately, the others would of left by then for a pre-dinner drinky…

Ok, so I’ll stay on the train right into Cardiff and then get a cab… not ideal, as I now have to change into my going out clothes on a moving train… hurrah for baby change sized toilets thats all I can say!

Arrive at Cardiff just after 7pm, a bit earlier than expected, no worries I’ll get a cab… oh look, there seem to be 1000’s of welsh people milling around looking happy… ah, rugby match against Australia has just kicked out… doh, doh, DOH DOH DOH!!!

Wait 20mins for a cab.. who then doesn’t really know where he’s going… arrive at the bay (incidentally, strongly rec a visit - very nice area).. wander round a bit… aha! Restaurant located… waltz in at 730pm pretty much on the nose! Genius.

Had a great night, groovy food, cool to see all the cousins n my sister, other halves and general stragglers…

Return leg all went to plan, until bristol, where we sat for about 45mins due to a “fatality on the line” ew, savage… I’ll let them off that one, although it meant our train was massively overcrowded and I missed my Bournemouth connection by about… 3mins, again… not so bad, as there was another one 30mins later.

Moral of the story, I still don’t believe in good or bad luck… just the constant chaos of life!
