More greener grass?

Wow, the grass really isn’t greener on the other side!

Thailand

nice place, I’m sure… can’t wait to be there (3 days – not that I’m counting…)

Would the reality of living there match the greener grass view from here?

Hmmm… judging on the injections I had to have and spending £55 on malaria tablets.. maybe not!

obesity discrimination?

Please tell me, we’re not about to get obesity discrimination laws?

What next… anti-bad hair discrimination laws?

Fashion police?

This is utterly ridiculous. Personally I believe we should remove ALL discrimination laws.

Whhhhhhoooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Hold on… before you start foaming at the mouth… I’m not some Neo-Nazi freak.

My theory goes like this, having discrimination laws encourages discrimination. – (ut oh more controversy…)

It should be as wrong to hit anyone, be it because you were a racist, biggot, drunkard or whatever.

Signifying a crime as “different” on the grounds of race/color/sex/weight/fashion crimes is to subconsciously create a difference between these acts. Basic psychology shows you that this makes you more likely to perceive people as different – i.e. the very fact we have anti-discrimnation laws in place, encourages discrimination.

We’re all grown ups, lets scrap them all and treat everyone fairly… or am I just being thoughtfully provocative again???

Rain, rain, go away!

Some rain, ok. This much rain… nope.

Why do we choose to live in a country that rains on us this much???

I mean, if it was “monsoon season” or “Hurricane Season” maybe it’d be ok, because the rest of the year you get some damn fine heat… what do we get? A few days of fog, some slightly warm days… at best a “hot snap” (normally 3 days max)… pppffffffttt

Can’t wait to be in Thailand now!

Maybe I should go and join the horde of people I now know that have moved (or are in process of moving to) Sydney!

Apologies for the impersonal nature of this next bit, felt I should say hi to a load of peeps…

Andy and Emma, hope you guys are groovy.. Andy, you not on MSN anymore, or am I just awake at the wrong times?

Neil and Lucy – gutted you’re in the Uk while I’m in Thailand, hope Oz is groovy… maybe I’ll come over for some boogy nights next year.

Benton – good luck with the emigration dude… wish I had 2 passports… what kept you here? :D

Hello to everyone else in the far flung corners of the world…

Canadian Sarah… in darkest Africa, love your emails.

Caz.. good luck with the cruise croupiering (is that a word???), muchos alcohol n beach partying when you return! Any jobs for me on board? ;)

Carl, can’t believe you’re also in London… while I’m in thailand!! DOH! Congrats on the baby and lovely wife… any tips for Bangkok?

Shane and Doc Hollywood – again, how did I do this??? everyone in the UK as I leave for 2 weeks. Hope to see you both soon, planning a month in the states in next year or 2.

Happy New Year (eh?)

A big thanks to all that came down friday… forgot to take my camera, doh!

Anyway a good night was had by all, they’ve said they want to book me again for a main room set and another back room one! Wooooo! (watch this space!)

Wow, in a week I’ll be in Thailand… how did that happen??

Can’t wait for 2 weeks of general chillin’, I just know its going to sort my head out and I realised yesterday that I’ve not really being doing anything creative for the last month or two… no new tunes, no progress on the book or magazine articles! DOH DOH DOH!

I hereby declare that 14th Nov is the Luke New Year. (note to self: make some resolutions)

I shall come back refreshed and ready to conquer the world…

update 21/10/05

FFFFfffffff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Life’s pretty mental right now, getting set for thailand and cramming as much in before I go.

Looking forward to tonight!!! Spinnin’ some tunes with Mr Bailey upstairs… and the 3 slinky legends downstairs… (Jon Gurd, Tim Lyall and Gaz White) plus get to see some cool people I haven’t seen for ages! (Domino… “Mi Nobio”… :D love you man! …better not do a no show!)

Anyways… had a quick look at my web stats for this site on wed night… over 4000 hits this month already! What? Who…? Aparently my Google page rank is now 4… wow. (not that it means much really)

So this is a big hello to all my friends, old n new… real and imaginary, virtual and hypothetical… online, offline and shake-n-it-big-time. HELLO & WELCOME!

Had some weird thoughts about food… but I’ll save that for next week, when I have more time.

Big props to Nick from Pnau, interviewed him on the show last night, top bloke, top tunes… go buy his album: “Pnau – Again” on underwater records.

Nice Swan, sorry its a bit random… head working faster than fingers…

greener grass… the ‘key’ skill?

Such a true saying, the grass does always appear greener on the other side… although, maybe sometimes its true?

In a lot of professions I think people from the outside, perceive them as being better than they really are… for example…

Radio

sounds kinda cool? Exciting?

Well maybe it is more so than a McJob… but more than any other reasonably skilled job? No, I don’t reckon… like any job it has its high fliers, but so does any profession!

The reality is often that people are earning, a not too exciting salary… speaking semi-scripted links, in amongst a pre-determined playlist.

Hmmm not quite what most people expect.

I really believe this can be applied to most professions… people outside see the top people and misjudge that one valuable ‘key’ skill that is needed to get there… what they don’t realise is that its also the same ‘key’ skill that would make them a high flyer in their existing life.

Sure… talent, skill and natural ability play a part… but not as big as you’d expect.

What is this ‘key’ skill?

It’s that magic ingrediant that super athletes, business people… radio personalities and everyone else who lives on the greener hill has…

Dedication, drive, motivation call it what you want.

Knowing what you want and throwing every ounce of your being into making it happen, will bring you success on your very own green hill.
