Health + Motivation

yesterday, I felt like crap. Either I had some sort of stomach bug, or my gut was flushing something out following my detox diet. Not sure if this non-yeast + alcohol thing is working, today I have the runny nose again… I’m going to give it to friday, if I don’t feel anybetter then… I’m drinkin at Homelands!

It’s so hard to get things done when you’re ill, I had things I wanted to do yesterday that I’m only just getting done now (although I got some stuff done). All I was able to do was sit and hack around with this site and do a bit of design for a client… the real work I needed to do, planning the next few weeks, got left.

Today, apart from the cold, I feel better. I’ve made myself get out of bed early n get on with stuff. Anyone got a cattle prod? Not sure I can keep this up today.

resistance to change!

I find it fascinating how people instinctively resist change…

If you look above, you’ll see I’ve added a button called “screenshot

I challenge you, to have a good look and tell me what it is you preferred about the old site… be honest, you’re just being resistant to change for the sake of it, aren’t you?

Fascinating…

Now some good reasons I think this one is better…

  1. The RSS feed is working - ok its quite geeky but I bet that soon you’ll be using RSS…
  2. It’s not launched YET but the screenshot button will change to become an integrated gallery (which I couldn’t do before)
  3. This style gives me much more control over things like font size (which I’m open to comment on… I’m pondering making the main entries a size larger - feedback?

new coat o’ paint…

yes, I felt it was time for a new virtual lick of paint… seeing as how the flat is about to get a 9 day changing room style blitz, I wouldn’t want this place to feel left out… :D

What do you think? Prefer the old one? Any german words still lurking? I quite liked “AbsChicken” in place of submit… Working ok on your Mac domino??

Apologies to anyone who logged on earlier… the changeover was a bit bumpy if you were browsing with Internet Explorer (boo hiss) but looked fine on Firefox (go get it!) - all done now

Mindset n Family Tree?

Sunday saw a brief road trip to visit a load of relatives in Bath… turned out to be pretty much the whole williams/greenhalf tribe. I like these big family gatherings, most of my family lives 3+ hours away so I don’t see them as often as I’d like. (plus I work mainly weekends and they all work in the week)

The reason for this gathering was “the twins” birthdays a couple of weeks ago and my mum’s twin brothers wife’s birthday on sunday. (confused?)

Check this out for a sizeable clan… (people don’t believe me when I say Christmas shopping is hard work)

  • my mum
  • mum’s mum
  • mum’s twin brother
  • mum’s twin brothers wife
  • mum’s twin brothers wife’s mum
  • mum’s twin brothers wife’s mum’s sister!!! (Confused now???)
  • plus 3 cousins (with 2 other halves) 2 more uncles and an aunt

From the Greenhalf side (my mum’s tribe) the only person missing was my sister (who has her CEMA exams this week - good luck sis!) so my gran made us all sign a postcard wishing her luck in her exams.

Meeting family is always weird, I’m kind of a wild child of the family, I think they’d love it if I had a normal job… girlfriend n all that… nah! not me guv’nor!

Anyway, family tree done n dusted… the whole point of this was about mindset.

Apart from my cousin Helen who is starting to discover that life can be whatever you make it (and possibly my uncle David), I have only 1 fundamental difference to my family, which I must remind myself of (hence the reason for todays post)

They settle, I challenge.

I don’t mean that in a bad/derogatory way, its just, they all sit around discussing how bad their boss is, how much they’d love to have more holiday time… etc etc, perfectly normal things. I just don’t see life that way, I know life is whatever you make it.

If i want the weather to be nicer, I’ll work out how to move somewhere hotter (Still working on that one)…

If my boss is working me too hard, I’ll quit and become self employed (oops did that too)…

Note to self: Take time to set your goals, work out how to reach them… break it down into chunks then go do it!

intolerance & allergy

I think my lifestyle is affecting my health. Today I feel like crap. This morning my nose would not stop running and my head isn’t working at all.

Ok, so this is partly due to a brutal hangover today, caused by a number of factors….

  1. one of my best friends’ leaving do, last night
  2. not having drunk alcohol for about 4 weeks (apart from thursday!)
  3. a really tough week, combined with some compound sleep deprivation
  4. a possible intolerance to yeast or alcohol???

Hmmm the last one needs investigating, it certainly seems plausible for a number of reasons…. (wow I really like lists today)

  1. For a while I’ve suspected there is something I eat which I’m intolerant/allergic/react weirdly too, which has been giving me a brutal runny nose. (clear n liquid like hay fever, not yellow/green n slimy like a cold… :D )
  2. After my anti-biotics spell I spent about 3 weeks without drinking a thing and I felt great
  3. someone told me I might have, so now its possibly psychosomatic!
  4. it seems to be at its worst, the following day after drinking brewed drinks like beer/lager

To test this theory means some pretty radical lifestyle changes which I’m going to try as it’s important to me to get my life on track and being healthy is needed for that!

Experiment 1: Remove yeast from my diet for 2 weeks.

That seems easy… except its homelands this weekend (so no drinking will be hard at a festival!) and bread is a significant factor in my diet. (I love cheese on toast and sandwiches and bacon sarnies and toast and.. and and…)

Life would be great if it was easy to get an allergy/intolerance test so I just knew without cutting these beloved ingredients from my diet. (a real one, not some un-scientific one like hair testing or that electro-probe thing which can be obtained at places like Dr China)

Lets see how it goes…

dreams… pt2

last night I had a really vivid dream… that I ate some Washing Powder!

How odd is that???

It was so real, I could taste it as it went all foamy in my mouth, then I was trying to get rid of the taste and make sure it didn’t kill me (an impending phobia of washing powder perhaps???).

You’ll be pleased to know, all was solved with a swill of milk. (I remember someone in the dream saying something about alkaline too?)

I’m a firm believer that you can often interpret dreams to unlock your inner self, they can be a way of your subconcious mind telling you something…. what the hell this is about I have no idea!!!

There was nothing that related to anything I’ve seen on TV, read… talked about… no reference to any up-coming events, no connection. A seemingly entirely random dream. Cool!
