Celebrity

watched a really good program with Peirs Morgan last night “the importance of being a celebrity” or something similar.

fascinating to watch the way being a celebrity has evolved from people with talent to everyone wanting to be famous for no reason. The psychology of this amuses me, the amount of people that feel a lacking in their life that could only be fulfilled by “15 mins of fame”.

I wonder if the information overload we experience in modern society is having more effect than imagined. The sheer amount of information and entertainment available is overwhelming.

What effect this has, seems to be, some people either giving up and reverting to fundamentalism or distrusting those with exponentially more knowledge/money/power. “Normal” people willing to do almost anything to be famous.

I feel sorry for these people, its almost like they want to escape from their real lives. My message to these people would be, make your own life the way you want to live it, then you’ll be happy.

negative campaigning

Negative campaigning annoys me.

The tories have a sequence of billboards, one asks “How hard is it to keep a ward clean?”, If i worked in a hospital this would be a sure fire vote loser for me, in fact it has cemented my distaste for the party of snobs.

IT IS BLOODY HARD TO KEEP A HOSPITAL CLEAN YOU PILLOCKS!

Keeping a building that has 100’s of people coming in and out, every illness imaginable, clinically clean IS difficult… jeeeebus it makes me mad, they are effectively dissing all those poor hard working souls who work keeping hospitals clean.

Negative Campaigning is proven in studies as being most effective at decreasing votes for your opposition BUT it turns off voters from voting at all

Voter turn out is likely to be very low, thanks to the pointless sound bite chasing of the idiots in red + blue. I don’t trust either of them with this country anymore. I for one am going to vote for those guys who seem to have something constructive to say, the REAL alternative in my mind.

Feel free to leave a comment and tell me what you think.

Right n Wrong…

Out biggest enemy in the world is ignorance… cliche’d but true.

Some people just seem unable to see that 2 people can hold differing view points, without anyone being right. It’s a dangerous state of affairs for the modern world that breeds intolerance and hatred.

Even in our own country, there are contradictions that make no sense… Tobacco is legal, other drugs are not. We know 100% if you smoke, it’s gonna kill you. Most drugs research indicates potential dangers of long term usage, really are they any different?

The world is growing at such a pace, we’re all in information overload. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed with the pace of change in the world, increasingly people seem to be going back towards more fundamentalist religions.

Herein lies my dilemma.

I respect other peoples beliefs, they’re welcome to worship, Allah, Jeesus, G-D, Septilon 7 from the planet Riggon… I don’t.

When the president of the united states, says of evolution vs creationism “the juries still out on that one” I get scared.

How can anyone ignore the evidence of evolution?

That’s not a belief, it’s based on sound science that anyone can replicate. Surely there is room to say that evolution occurs because of the will of (god/g-d/allah/jeesus/septilon 7/jerry springer/”the leader”).

That is my problem, what is right and wrong? How do I reconcile these 2 and respect that view?

choices

Ever wonder how your life would of been different? Yeah, I bet you do.

April is always a weird month for me, I associate it with massive change and always find myself reflecting on life’s many twists and turns, this year a bit more than usual as it’s 10 years since my father died. Undoubtably the biggest single life changing event I’ve experienced so far.

Tommorrow I’m going to the christening of Daniel, son of 2 of my best friends from uni. Seeing them is always awesome, I count them in that group of friends where it might be a week, a month or a year since you last saw them, but you know if you need them, they’re there and they know the same of me.

Our lives have drifted in very different directions, I lived with Steve (Daniel’s proud dad) at Uni, after uni we worked together for a few years, until I left to be self employed in April 2002. I think Steve is kind of living the life I could easily of had, nice house, cool wife, a cat, young baby, decent job… I decided to take a risk and, yes its been hard, I don’t regret taking that step though I do sometimes wonder how my life would be different.

It’s good to reflect but bad to obsess.

So as I bid you farewell for today, I remind myself of this….

This blog entry is being typed on your spanking studio pc, near your nice sofa and new TV in the flat you own… That CD you’re loving, you made last night… You’re being picked up in an hour by a car full of lovely ladies to go to the first of 3 parties tonight… Life is good :)

Write your own book, today!

“Popular Psychology” as it seems to now be called (or “self help”, which does sound more needy I guess) is a HUGELY growing market…

Here is a template for you to use, to write your own book (I’ll leave the title to you)

You see, as part of my Diploma in Life Coaching, I studied Pop Psych books, to understand the process by which they help their readers… I reached some startling conclusions.

Every Pop Psych book can be summed up in the same way, so here is my book in condensed form for you to fill in the blanks (send me a % of any royalties you get):

My life was rubbish because (I didn’t have enough time/money/satisfaction), I changed it around in only a few short years and you can too!

(Insert examples here of other people who turned their life around using the authors other available products)

State ad nauseum that anyone can change, even you! (use ! loads at the end of sentences, it makes your reader feel better)

Promote strategic partners products through further examples of people who… “Turned from a 9-5 wage slave to a property/commodoties/entrepeneur millionaire”

Offer a 5 stage process (feel free to modify the number of steps to suit your own “method”), remind the reader it can “WORK FOR YOU TOO!!!” (use a few exclamation marks now as you’re headed towards the guts of your method…

1) realise you need to change (mention, that they’re probably here already as they’re reading your book, congratulate them on taking that first step)
2) decide what changes you want to make in your life
3) take action (rephrase to insert your own buzz words here, some already in use are: Take Massive Action, Take the First Step, then Go and Grow…)
4) Persevere (again, choose your own phrase here… EG Build Momentum, Grow and Grow..)
5) Reflect on your success and enjoy life! (remember that the last step needs at least one !)

Add a few quotes from famous business figures, maybe a poem or two…

Mention further reading (from your associates and you of course) and residential courses they can take (obviously delivered by you)

remind them that anyone can change, give a few more examples, wish them good luck! (don’t forget to end with a !)

Ta Da

Don’t get me wrong, this method does really work. I guarantee it! See I was doing a 9-5 and then… (oh shit now I’m writing a book following my own template, the irony…)

Seriously though, this method DOES work, if you follow those 5 steps you will reach your goals.

Obviously, dependent on your personal experience and academic knowledge, you could slant your book to include eating and exercise or maybe some pseudo-psychological terms you make up.

There is, of course a lot more to personal change than that, but as a template, there you go.

Now go.. take Massive Action / Go and Grow / Take the first step / Be your own boss / Build Momentum… JUST DO IT!!!

deja vu…?

a short “quiz” for y’all…

Name the country where:

1) ..the government has been proven wrong on its “evidence” for going to war?
2) ..business seems to be the main force behind politics?
3) ..former allies (who they sold weapons to) are now “sponsors of terror”?
4) ..the leading political figure is increasingly introducing religion into politics?
5) ..sound scientific practices are being discussed on an equal footing with “other religious thinkings” in some schools?
6) ..mainstream press seem to be focusing on irrelevant “infotainment” style news and incessant coverage of news stories at the expense or some, actually quite major stories?
7) ..”terror suspects” are detained without basic trial, despite the right to fair trial being a leading principle of that country?
8) ..local politicians are in court over allegations of vote rigging, without ANY statement from their political party denouncing their involvment?

what did you answer?

America?

Look again, that is all happening here in the UK.

Scary aint it!?

The one that hit me is how small a story has been made about the vote rigging in Birmingham.

Richard Mawrey QC who ruled on this case said that our postal voting system was: “wide open to fraud” AND strongly attacked the government’s attitude to the problem.

He ruled there had been “widespread fraud” in six Birmingham council seats won last year by Labour.

I cannot believe how this seems to be a non-issue!!!! (it’s not even on the front page of BBC news website!)

Maybe I’m missing something here???? If I am, please let me know.
