hoarding

I can’t help it, I hoard crap… and it has to stop!

It’s taken me 3 days on and off to sort through all the stuff I’m hoarding under my bed and around the house… my flatmate has suggested that we ebay all the random stuff I want to get rid of, see part the problem is, I don’t believe in throwing something away that could be used.

This hoarding of things I don’t need anymore (like car care stuff… hello, I sold my car 3 years ago!), plus the stores of momentos and odd bits I don’t use often (eg a tent) = a load of junk!

Still, I’ve done the really important stuff this week and sort out the mess after one of the tennants in this block had a domestic and kicked a hole in the communal front door. (the managment company are useless, you want anything doing… do it, send them the bill!)

All in all, I’ve done ok this week… my plans from now are to allow more time for long term planning and development.

Next method… the list thing works, need to manage my time better… hmm, I’ll get back to you.

some alternative sayings, should you find your vocabulary lacking:

“bob’s your bastard daddy” – voila / there you go
“muff monkey” – my current favourite friendly insult, probably best not say this one around your mother though
“jeeeebus” – as in “I don’t even believe in jeeebus” from my favourite simpsons episode where homer becomes a missionary after offending PBS… also linked to:
“I’m not not licking toads” – a good phrase to mutter to yourself when winding someone guillable up

distractions and priorities…

why are distractions so damn distracting?

I try and keep a list somewhere, so if I’m doing 1 thing and a tangent/distraction/idea/thing crops up, rather than go down that tangent I write it down… (see method 1)

The plan was, Monday de-clutter my flat, I seem to of gained a lot of random crap recently, its time to sort out all the stuff under my bed too… but, it’s so easy to convince yourself that other things are more pressing and demand your attention… “checking your email” / “having a look at the news online in case the worlds about to implode” / “watching spoof MJ music videos” / “Writing in an online diary” / “staring out the window watching the squirrel vs pigeon war” / “helping a friend solve dilemmas on MSN”…

although having said that, whilst “de-cluttering” I have managed to get my invoicing and tune reactions up to date… filled 1 bag of rubbish and 1 bag to go to a charity shop… maybe I’m too hard on myself? Hmmm, nope there was definitly some hardcore faffing yesterday (yes Luke, watching Smallville is important – hmmmm Kristen Kreuk :D )

It reached a head about 2am, after watching some film on ch4… and realising that I had soo much crap around the flat and my bed was apart, I’d have to sleep in the lounge… luckily my new sofa bed arrived a couple of weeks back..

its hard to de-clutter, I really should get rid of a few things, my hearts just not in it though… my old BMX, I can’t even remember the last time I rode it, but it’s still sat there taking up space.

a “2 min” post is now an epic. arse.

note to self: stop being distracted and prioritise better

Human Rights?

I read today that the Conservative party is planning on scrapping the human rights act if they cant overhaul it… they’re using that as a selling point to their campaign??? Jeeebus

Whilst I agree that, aspects of it are being mis-used by some convicted criminals, I still believe those people have right like, fair trials.

One of the exmples they (the tories) are giving as “wrong” is of convicted rapist Rupert Massey who was awarded compensation of £6000 because of the length of time it took his case to go through court.

He deserved a fair, timely trial. If the court ruled he didn’t get that, there should be some form of correction, wether compensation is fair, I’m not sure.

if you stood trial for a crime and it took a year to clear your name, no one would argue you had a right to compensation… should this be any different for someone who is then eventually convicted?

Another was the case of a young man who appealed against an ASBO banning him from a local village, his appeal failed and he’s taking the case to the Court of Appeal (the tories main gripe being “at tax payers expense!”)

The human rights act, has not been tested against the use of ASBO’s so this is a precedence setting case, hardly fair justice if this individual had to make this case on his own.

I think he has the right to appeal and I’m confident he will lose the case, that doesnt stop him having the right to make that appeal.

My main worry in all of this is that the UK’s going to follow america, Blair and his closet-neo-conservative-labour party (stop copying george the monkey, you used to be an ok bloke tony) are increasingly similar to the conservatives… whos only campaigning seems to be old school trying to score points in debates rather than presenting a real alternative…

this leaves us with…

Lib dem, can they be the “real” alternative as their new campaign suggests?

or maybe Mr Kilroy Silk, who is the only politician who’s said anything I 100% agree with so far this year “people need a new political opposition”

Sun + Fog

Well I couldn’t go for too long without writing something about the weather!

Today is the hottest day of the year so far, in the last few weeks the UK has been unseasonably cold but today its about 16 degrees outside and glorious sunshine… living in costa del bournemouth this means a few things:

1) The boy racers are out in force with windows/roofs down
2) People are flocking to the beach
3) Mid life crisis men are trundling around in their convertables

sadly for these people (and me) a brief walk to the beach and I find the really intense fog that hits us a few times a year, at the beach visibility is 250m at best… at my flat (less than a km away :) ) its clear skies.

If there was an onsure breeze it’d create this spooky instant whiteout which I’ve only seen a few times in my years here, its so intense that it inspired Stephen King whilst he was staying here (researching former local, Mary Shelly author of Frankenstein) and I’ve seen people asking if theres a big fire in town as it rolls in.

Where else in the world would people be enjoying the beach in fog! hahaha

I wonder if it’s optimism that the fog’s going to magically lift (um, theres no wind people!) or just some form of stubborness “we WILL visit the beach because it’s nice today”… “oh its foggy, well… must make the best of it!”

hmmmm
