best laid plans…

“Best laid schemes o’ mice and men, gang aft a-gley,
and leave us naught but greif and pain, for promised joy”
(Robert Burns)

or as is better bastardised in modern speak “best laid plans of mice n men often go pete tong”

hmmm so much for the getting up at a regular time… see, my memory isnt the greatest, so i use outlook for keeping track of gigs and appointments… good thing really, I almost forgot I was doing a job in Croydon on Tuesday, that required a 6am departure from Sunny Bournemouth… what a long day!

0500 – got up
0615 – drive to croydon
work in croydon (no break) till..
1600 start drive back….
2000 arrive :( accidents on A23 + M3 delaying progress somewhat!
2100 leave flat to do radio show
0100 finally able to go to bed…

needless to say I wasnt out of bed today at 9 :)

the delayed journey back made me ponder the choices I make, you see, as tiring as it was (I made 2 small stops on way home to prevent tiredness setting in, which for me is unusual) I had no regrets that this was my chosen life: a bit random but not boring!

all these poor souls on the motorway at 7am, do this trek EVERY day, or at least very often, jeebus, I couldn’t do that! I’d much rather do a few nights, the odd long day and have the freedom to go down the beach for an hour if I so choose. All I have in the diary for the rest of this week is a couple of meetings and my regular friday gig… life is good, its to easy to forget that sometimes.

Today (in a non-religious post-easter fashion) I’m feeling renewed and thankfull for the life I’ve chosen.

Getting out of bed

Now I’m a busy guy, I believe in cramming as much into life as possible… make it diverse n exciting… challenging and stimulating… make time for the things you want to do…

but I just can’t get out of bed sometimes!

I have quite possibly the best mattress in the world and the softest/warmest duvet ever… it had been a heavy weekend, with working and drinking I did need a lie in, I wanted to get up and start doing some work today, I have to take my friend for a walk later too. My time in bed wasn’t entirely wasted, I had a few phone calls and txt messages to attend to… but a 3 hour lie in Mr Williams, is excessive!!!

Hmmm, I need to regulate my sleep a bit more, it’s hard when you work a minimum of 2 nights in a week not to become nocturnal, often I spend mon-wed in a kind of jetlag state because of finishing work at silly o’clock fri/sat nights.

So, as with anything in my sordid little life, I turn to books and the internet (I am such a nerd) for wisdom. Dr Bob Arnot seems to offer the theory that it is almost as important to get up at a regular time, as the amount of sleep you get each night, so allowing myself enough sleep each night, I’m going to set my alarm for 845 every day for a week (even mornings after I finish work at 2am) and see how it goes, allowing myself 15mins only to get out of bed too.

This weeks method,

Regulate sleep as much as possible
Avoid caffeine/sugar rich things after 1pm
Get out of bed 15mins after I wake up at latest
Get up, have a think about what I want to acheive today, then get on with it….

Dr Who!

Yeeeaaaahhh, awesome.

The Doctor is back!!! Ecclestone was genius: eccentric, intelligent and slightly over logical – spot on… Ms Piper was suprisingly good too.

Bit disappointed the story was a 1 part-er I thought I remembered them having good cliff hangers? Maybe my memory fails me.

At times it bordered on silly (killer wheelie bins, beware!) but that was always a part of it and I’m glad they didn’t take themselves to seriously, or it’d just be another anal sci-fi that people will obsess over.

9.5/10

66 inches of pleasure

No lying, I now have 66 more inches to play with :D

Been upgrading my studio set up this week, ordered 2x 19″ monitors, as my 17″ is just not enough when I’m working on tunes….

then my TV blew up, literally. POP – small flash – pinkle… phut and now it won’t turn on… well TV being one of life’s essentials (what with Dr Who and E4 second chance sunday imminent) I’ve gone n got a nice shiny new 28″ beauty… ah shopping does bring happiness…

genetic disposition…

I think I have a genetic disposition to party.

why is it sooo hard to resist tempting offers?

I was absolutely resolved to not go out tonight… by 6pm I had 4 invites out, one of which was from a model friend of mine to accompany her to an “uberchic” party as her +1 :D

Combine this with needing to drop some CD’s into Fruit (where I dj every fri and will undoubtably be fed a free shot or two tonight…) a good chance to network at Wot Bar and a friend I ought to support warming up for Phil Thompson of Bedrock… I seem to now have a night planned… oops.

hard life sometimes ‘init?

note to self: develop a greater tolerance to temptation and be more disciplined

hoarding

I can’t help it, I hoard crap… and it has to stop!

It’s taken me 3 days on and off to sort through all the stuff I’m hoarding under my bed and around the house… my flatmate has suggested that we ebay all the random stuff I want to get rid of, see part the problem is, I don’t believe in throwing something away that could be used.

This hoarding of things I don’t need anymore (like car care stuff… hello, I sold my car 3 years ago!), plus the stores of momentos and odd bits I don’t use often (eg a tent) = a load of junk!

Still, I’ve done the really important stuff this week and sort out the mess after one of the tennants in this block had a domestic and kicked a hole in the communal front door. (the managment company are useless, you want anything doing… do it, send them the bill!)

All in all, I’ve done ok this week… my plans from now are to allow more time for long term planning and development.

Next method… the list thing works, need to manage my time better… hmm, I’ll get back to you.
